Audiobooks for inspiration

I have said a lot these past few days about my paperback, "I Walked With Jesus" but did you know I have published four audiobooks that will bring you closer to Christ?

Allow me to focus on them.

I Walked With Jesus is read by Krista Nicely. I interviewed Krista on July 15, 2021. Click here to read the interview. This book has brought me a lot of joy. I have felt closer to those I have chosen to write about in this book of short stories - many of whom have only one line in the Bible. This book has received 5 stars!

Powerful

I loved the way Kathryn brought the Bible stories to life.
The reader was clear and very good.
I would definitely recommend this book.

My Conquering Your Goliaths series has garnered widespread interest. The series idea came to me when my husband asked, "Why do you think Goliath picked up five stones?" The question came from a nephew and was then passed on to my husband and then on to me. The full title is: Conquering Your Goliaths: A Parable of the Five Stones. This book has 16 ratings on Audible.com; 47 reviews on Amazon, with an average 4.5-star rating. Nancy Peterson is the narrator of this book. I met Nancy through the recommendation of my sister. Nancy was excited to take on my project.

The second book in the series is "The Feast: A Parable of the Ring". The journey continues with Ms. Virginia Bean. It has received a 4.6 rating on Audible.

Would you listen to Conquering Your Goliaths again? Why?

I definitely would listen again, and I plan to. The story had so many Truths in it, and I would love to sit down with a notebook and just soak them all in.

Another wonderful story!

This was a sweet continuation of Virginia's story. The struggles, frustrations, & victories were so utterly relatable. This is a parable every woman can relate to.

The third and final book in the series, "The Gift - A Parable of the Key" has received a 4.4 rating on Audible.

Love the series!

I loved this book. The Gift is the 3rd in the series and now I am so involved with these characters that I feel like I am part of their lives. The Gift is very well written, the characters are well developed, and I felt as though I were right there with them. I especially love the Christian values and the way that they are brought out in the story. Just by listening to Virginia talking to God made me feel closer to Him. Kathryn Elizabeth Jones is now one of my favorite Christian authors and Nancy Peterson is one of my favorite narrators. She gives such a beautiful voice to the characters that I could listen to her all day - and I have listened for several hours! I highly recommend this series!

We absolutely need more books like this! "I Walked with Jesus" takes moments from the gospels—encounters with Jesus, and portrays them in a novel-like narrative. If you're familiar with the TV series,
"The Chosen," this book reminds me of that show, because it portrays beautifully and emotionally the people with whom Jesus came in contact.

Reading the stories spelled out like a novel brings them to life, especially for avid readers. I think there's potential to never read the scriptures the same, because of the powerful portrayals in the book.

Kathryn's got it right! I'll be watching for more of her work!

Regular price $14.98
Today $4.16

"This is the second book of a series which I hope goes to ten volumes, or more. I finished this exciting one hundred ninety-page cozy mystery in two days. The presentation is impeccable and keeps the reader on the edge. Sunny Side-Up is well written. The ending is a clever surprise."

Sneak Peek Book Preview - I Walked with Jesus

Have you ever felt like one of the least of these?

What do you know of the woman at the well? What led her to the well that day - the exact day Jesus would be there? What of the lepers, the blind man, the woman who dried Jesus' feet with her hair? What of the Centurion who said at the cross, "Truly this man was the Son of God"? Stories of Jesus. You have heard them since you were young. But what about the parts that you've never heard?

The stories that need to be told? The stories you need to hear?

Release Date: September 2021!

COMING SOON! A new book and a writer's event!

For readers of my blog, I apologize. It's been a rough year and a half. But things are finally looking up, even in the book department.

Christ and the Samaritan Woman at the Well
by Angelica Kauffman

I have been working on a new book for quite a few months. The new title is "I Walked With Jesus: New Testament Stories of Faith & Healing from the Least of These." The book is filled with stories from the time of Christ. Many of those who had an experience with Jesus had only a line or two written about them. Others didn't even have a name attached to the experience.

All walked with Christ.

The interesting thing about this book is the freedom I had in writing these stories. I have done quite a bit of studying of the scriptures and the time period, but have had room to create the character behind the story because there was so little written about them.

If you have viewed The Chosen, you will find my stories similar in nature to what has been produced by Angel Studios. You will see the woman at the well, not just at the moment she meets Christ, but, long before that, when she marries for the first time. You will see how Malchus's life is lived before his ear is cut off at the gate to the Garden of Gethsemane and the healing takes place. You will see the centurion who finally saw Christ as he died on the cross, not through accident, but because of what he'd experienced before that moment. "Truly, this was the son of God" came because he was prepared to receive the message.

The book's new release will be in September of 2021 before the writer's conference listed below.

Conquer Your Goliaths this Black Friday

I don't know about you, but I used to stand in the long line of my favorite department store the morning after Thanksgiving.

It was cold and unbelievably tiresome.

Once I asked a lady in front of me why she was waiting in line at 5 a.m.

"Socks," she said.

I couldn't believe it, but then I could.

I'd been coming to these Black Friday events for years, standing in line with my daughters, and sometimes with friends or family members. There was something about racing for the deals and getting to them before someone else did that I found exciting.

Maybe I'm getting old, but, nowadays I prefer staying indoors to do my shopping. It's warmer, not nearly as tiresome, and I can take a nap if I want to.

That being said, some of the joy is missing. I don't get to talk to anyone in line or buy a cup of cocoa to warm me up. Like buying a real Christmas tree, you lose a little when you by the fabricated kind.

Still...

There's the warmth.

I suppose I'm going to vie for warmth again this year. How about you?

If you decide to stay inside, or if you're in one of those long lines at your favorite department store, you might just want to take a moment and order something for free. I may not be able to help you conquer the long lines and cold hands, but I will more than likely be able to help you out with those other unmentionables. Those things most of us keep hidden.

God knows what they are and so do we. And he will help us with those things, whatever they are. Things like listening and trusting in Him. Being optimistic even when things are the darkest. Keeping that tenacious spirit; never giving up, and being constant with Him, no matter what anyone else says or does that we may not like.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW: Hannah Abbott

Tell me about yourself. What got you started in writing?

I've always wanted to be three things: a wife, a mom, and a writer, so I guess you could say I'm living the dream! I've been married to my husband, Harrison, for seven years and I'm a stay-at-home mom to three kids, ages 4, 2, and 1. But I've always wanted to be a writer. When I was about 10 I went to a friend's house one day and she had written a story for a kids' writing contest. Something about seeing that story written on paper just resonated with me and all I wanted to do was write my own story. That hasn't changed since. I have always read a lot of books and even when I'm not writing, I'm probably thinking about writing.

How do you schedule your writing time? When do you write?

As a busy mom, finding time to write isn't easy! I sneak it in during nap times and late at night when my kids are asleep. But I also try to plan one night a week when my husband stays with the kids and I go to a coffee shop or somewhere quiet and spend time focused on writing.

How and where do you write? Do you prefer a lap top or some other method of getting your words down?

I really enjoy writing at a coffee shop where I don't have the distractions of home. I play music in my headphones and that keeps me focused. When I start out a story I like to outline with pen and paper. Sometimes my mind works faster when I'm writing by hand than if I'm typing. But once I'm working on the actual book, I work on a laptop. It's nothing fancy, just a Word document open on the computer and I keep my written outline close.

What's your favorite part about writing? Your least favorite part about writing?

My favorite part is seeing the characters come to life. I also love it when my characters do something I didn't expect them to do. That might seem funny since I'm writing and creating them, but sometimes I'll type something out and think "Oh, well I didn't know that was going to happen," and that's pretty fun. My least favorite part is major edits, like seeing that a plot just isn't going in the right direction anymore and having to hit the delete button on a lot of work. It happens though, and usually, the writing comes easier and better once I get rid of it and get back on track. It's just hard to lose something after you've worked so hard.

How did you come up with your book idea? How long did it take you to write your book?

For this particular book, the idea came from one sentence someone said to me. The book doesn't have anything to do with that person, but when they said it it was like I heard a character say it and I could see the circumstance and storyline behind it. I actually started writing the book about ten years ago, but I would just work on it here and there and didn't have any kind of time frame for when I wanted it finished. Once I really got serious and said I was going to finish it, it took me about four months to write the first draft. But then I put it on the backburner and it was close to a year before I picked it back up. Then editing and beta readers and proofing took several months.

What types of marketing do you do to promote your writing?

I promote through social media, on Instagram and my Facebook page. I also like to cross-promote with others authors and work with book bloggers and reviewers.

What are you currently working on? Do you have a new book out?

I'm currently working on the sequel to my book, Even Still, and I'm hoping to finish that by the fall.

Get the Book at Amazon
Do you have a project on the back burner? Tell me about it.

I have lots of projects in my mind at all times. I'm always making notes in my writing notebook for story ideas that I hope to get to someday.

What would you tell a beginning writer who wants to publish but doesn't believe he/she has enough talent?

I would say, just start! Read a lot of books that you like and get a feel for your favorite kind of writing. And just write! Your first writings might be just for you, or it might be a terrible first draft, but just write. You've got to start somewhere. And once you've got something put together, find a few people to read it and give you some feedback and just keep going!

The Personal Change of a Great Book

It's that time of year again, when a great book, read near a roaring fire, can change your life forever.

I have read many such books through the years.

The list includes:

Aspire by Kevin Ball
The Dream Giver by Wilkinson
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

All of Max Lucado's picture books for children

and more...

The list grows every year.

What books to remember would you place on your list?

The Parables of Virginia Bean (3 Book Series) by Kathryn Elizabeth Jones

As an author, we'd like to think we are on a list or two somewhere. That's why we write. To bring enjoyment. To change lives.

If we're smart, we'll listen to those who have read our books, especially those readers who tell us that our books have changed them.

Here are a few remembrances from my Parable series:

"It was really fascinating. I definitely took something away from reading this. This is a book I will keep on my nook for future reference!"  (Conquering Your Goliaths: A Parable of the Five Stones)

"For me, Conquering Your Goliaths was a journey of self discovery. I found myself writing down things she said and pondering what it meant to me. Was I truly listening to God? Was I fully trusting Him? Through the weaving of the story by Jones and the voice of Nancy Peterson, this book came alive! What an amazing book! I can't wait to listen to the rest of the series."

"...lessons to be learned in The Feast, that can and should be shared with friends and family. A gentle read that I enjoyed very much."

"There are different challenges in the main character's way, as if he were testing them to see if they were true believers in him.I was inspired by this book" (The Feast: A Parable of the Ring)

"You’ll be spiritually enlightened!" (The Gift: A Parable of the Key)

"The Gift is a story about a family learning to trust in God and each other."

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and the happiest New Year!

Kathryn
