COMING SOON! A new book and a writer's event!

For readers of my blog, I apologize. It's been a rough year and a half. But things are finally looking up, even in the book department.

Christ and the Samaritan Woman at the Well
by Angelica Kauffman

I have been working on a new book for quite a few months. The new title is "I Walked With Jesus: New Testament Stories of Faith & Healing from the Least of These." The book is filled with stories from the time of Christ. Many of those who had an experience with Jesus had only a line or two written about them. Others didn't even have a name attached to the experience.

All walked with Christ.

The interesting thing about this book is the freedom I had in writing these stories. I have done quite a bit of studying of the scriptures and the time period, but have had room to create the character behind the story because there was so little written about them.

If you have viewed The Chosen, you will find my stories similar in nature to what has been produced by Angel Studios. You will see the woman at the well, not just at the moment she meets Christ, but, long before that, when she marries for the first time. You will see how Malchus's life is lived before his ear is cut off at the gate to the Garden of Gethsemane and the healing takes place. You will see the centurion who finally saw Christ as he died on the cross, not through accident, but because of what he'd experienced before that moment. "Truly, this was the son of God" came because he was prepared to receive the message.

The book's new release will be in September of 2021 before the writer's conference listed below.

Light Descending: The Space Adventures of Aaden Prescott, Book 2

We're almost there!

Here's the new cover:

And here's the opening:

Journey

Don't laugh. It's amazing what you can forget when you're about to be destroyed. All you can think about is your safety. Later, you realize you’re hungry and need a decent bed to sleep in. It's like the last time your mom yelled at you to get in the car – hovercar or not – and once a safe distance from your home, you remember you left your favorite electronic game behind.
I missed the seasons, even the cold ones. We'd had five Christmas’ in space, traveling through the sky like lost vacationers with no idea of where we were going. We'd managed a tree out of an iron pipe, and decorations from clothing that was worn out, cut into tiny pieces. We’d gathered pieces of wire no longer in use to hang the colored fabric, and the best leftover throw-away containers you’ve ever seen for awkward looking ornaments.
Presents consisted of love notes and nice things we had thought up to do for others. It was pretty boring, I can tell you, but sort of nice in a strange way. I mean, we were going to have to be with these people for a long time, maybe even forever before we found a planet that could support life.
As it was, Mom was always trying and failing to make things just like home, and Dad, well, let's just say he was working on one thing or another. There was a map, an electronic thing that could light up an entire room upon touch, and technical gizmos that had been difficult to fabricate up in space. Many of my favorites had been broken upon re-entry to Earth (when the shuttle hadn't been able to escape the planet and had crash-landed before my family had finally met up with them), and so parts and pieces had to be scrounged up and fitted together, even if the pieces didn't exactly fit.
Somehow, we'd managed in the space plane, and the advancements discovered on board hadn't hurt us any, including keeping the craft going beyond its expected landing port. I wasn't sure about all of the details, mainly because none of the adults talked about it outside of the 'room.'
But we’ll get to that later.
I was bored out of my mind most days. If it wasn't for Neva and Stella and the green stone, I would have gone crazy. But wouldn't you know it, the day I thought I'd lost it for sure, yelling at Barina, (the one who had first met us when we reached Space Doc 5), something fantastic was discovered in the ink-black sky I would never forget.

It's Getting Close to Christmas!

The excitment of Christmas is growing!

How are you feeling about now?

Excited?

Overwhelmed?

Tired?

Making time to write?

I hope so. Writing, for me, is a sort of therapy anyway -- one I especially need during the holidays. I have been working on my first YA mystery novel and am up to page 70 or so.

New projects, especially trying out new genres, is pretty exciting, and I hope to get Tie Died out to my younger readers in the fall of next year.

Merry Christmas and, as always

Happy Writing!

Kathryn

Need a Bit of Heaven?

Just a Glimpse...

Kathryn

It's too bad we can't live in heaven 24/7.
But what if we could tap into heaven whenever we wanted to, grab a handful of blue sky, reach for a rainbow, scatter the feelings of love born there whenever we needed it or wanted it?
What if a girl could fly? Where would she travel first?
What if a hippo could talk? And we actually learned something from him?
What if a dragon could not only fly, but sing? Would we listen?
What if we could reach heaven 24/7?
Right now, in this very second, as you read that very last line, did you think to yourself, "How can I truly reach heaven while I'm still planted firmly on this earth?"
How truly?

Celeste

I have felt, even known that the concept of living Heaven 24/7 is a reality, though living this kind of life is often unrecognized in my daily, busy, hustle and bustle life.
Stuck, yep, I’ve been stuck many a time. I’ve thought, “Why am I having such a miserable experience?” I have thought the proverbial, “Why me?” on many occasions. Yet, I have learned the beauty of this:
What if each moment is shaped, sculpted per se, given by heavenly design just for me? Just for me to…look at it…make a choice…hear or see something vital, critical, or beautiful…be inspired…be chastened…be in the right place to serve someone or be an instrument to answer their plea or prayer? What if?
What if this very moment is given to look to heaven, for heaven is always waiting for me to embrace it. Am I paying attention?  When I reach for Heaven, Heaven always reaches back. Am I keeping myself connected to what already is tangibly here on this earth and available to me…Heaven? Hummmm…

New Book! Get a Taste of The Feast: UPDATE!

Life...You never know quite what's going to happen next.

I had every intention of having my new book out September 1, but it's going to be a bit longer. My goal is to have it out by the end of the month. Although the interior is finished, we're having a bit of trouble getting the cover just right. You wouldn't think a pink cupcake cover would be that difficult, but...

So what do you think? I now have a cover.

Official release date: September 30!

The Feast is a companion book to Conquering Your Goliaths: A Parable of the Five Stones, and offers you, the reader, an opportunity to learn more about Ms. Virginia Bean and her new Goliath.

What is this new Goliath? you ask.

Well, it has something to do with a ring, a pink cupcake and God.

Here's a snippet of what you'll find at the beginning of Virginia's story:

"Her marriage with Richard was over. This was something Virginia knew for sure. She also knew she must have imagined the stones' supreme power and her awakening with God.

As she sat on the couch that still sported a hole large enough for a rock to pass through, she smiled at it sadly, touched the worn fibers of the cloth filling it's gap and thought of Richard and how much she missed him. She thought of her life, alone again, without a husband, without a child.

They'd been married five years and during that time Virginia had used the stones and what they represented in her life with Richard. He'd agreed that they held a power, and they'd displayed them on the mantel for all to see.

Except the stones hadn't given them a child, and after three years of relentless doctor visits, tests and more tests, Virginia was tired of it all and Richard was gone."

In case you haven't read book one of "Conquering Your Goliaths," here is a short preface to help you along:

"In Conquering Your Goliaths: A Parable of the Five Stones, Ms. Virginia Bean meets God and through the five stones: Listening, Trust, Optimism, Tenacity and Constancy, she learns a few things. About herself. About her relationship with God. About her relationship with others.

Listening teaches Virginia how to keep still long enough to listen to God.
She Learns to trust in God always, even if she doesn't agree.
Optimism keeps her thinking positive no matter what she faces.
And tenacity plays a big factor in moving her forward despite the obstacles.
Constancy, well, let's just say that it teaches her the importance of walking with God always. In good times and in bad.

Consider that even in the best of circumstances and the most difficult of trials, a person has a way of drifting away from the source of all happiness.
Like now, for example."

Intrigued? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Are You Traveling to New Book Destinations?

I love the thought of being able to travel the world through the simple act of writing about it.

No, it's not always a simple process, but this sort of travel sure saves on gas or airline tickets!

I keep a handy notebook with me as the ideas come because you never know when that new idea for your next book will step on board. I have received great ideas for books at the bank, in the shower and driving my car. I've also had dreams and pay close attention to the comments of others.

In these various ways I always have ideas to work off of and never find myself struggling to find something to write.

Some writers keep a notebook by their bed or a small recorder in their purse to record ideas.

I'd like to think that the keeping of ideas is as varied as the writers who use them. I'd like to think as I travel to a new book destination, that so are you. It's fun to meet writers on the trail and discuss writing. I always pick up ideas to take with me on my journey.

Have an idea you'd like to share? I would love to hear it.
