Tell me a little about yourself (where you live, who you are, what you look like, what you hope to achieve, etc.)
I live in Gilman. It’s a little town up in the Colorado mountains. Ever since Mr. Clinton discovered silver here a few years back in the 1880s, the town’s been growing. Had some outlaw gangs up this way too. I even rode in a posse for one of them. I’m the general store owner. I order supplies out of the catalog, have the train haul them up here. My store is where most of the business in town happens. I’m ordinary looking I guess, brown hair, brown eyes. I’ve got lots of plans to grow my business, maybe start a few more stores, perhaps get into the fur business.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
When I’ve finished up doing the store accounts, I read some, Shakespeare and the like. Patience suggested I read the Count of Monte Cristo. I also like riding to the mountain lakes.
What is your favorite color and why?
Brown, definitely brown, just the shade of brown as Patience’s lovely hair.
What is your favorite food? Why is it your favorite?
Anything Patience cooks is pure heaven to eat. Not that one can even focus on the food when one’s looking at Patience.
What would you say is your biggest quirk?
I think I’m fairly normal. Patience thinks I’m tiresome-normal, but I think I’m more interesting-normal.
What is it about your antagonist that irks you the most, and why? Share a line in the book where this irk is manifested.
He wants to marry my girl! Dadburn it, this Arnie “Dimwit” couldn’t possibly love Patience the way I do. I can see her right now, standing in the preserves aisle. She’s stopped dusting the shelves to stare at her daguerreotype of that heathen. As she tilts the picture to look at it, she smiles prettily, lending color to her perfectly molded cheeks. Even the curve of her elbow, just visible through brown calico can melt my heart in a puddle. And I’m not going to let any Arnie Dehaven press his hand to that perfectly molded elbow.
What or who means the most to you in your life? What, if anything, would you do to keep him/her/it in your life?
Patience Callahan. I’d fake woo her sister and go along with all Kitty Callahan’s hare-brained schemes to try to get a chance at winning my Patience.
What one thing would you like readers to know about you that may not be spelled out in the book in which you inhabit?
Patience is the sweetest, loveliest, kindest, most astute woman ever to tread the town of Gilman. No make that the world.
If you could tell your writer (creator) anything about yourself that might turn the direction of the plot, what would it be?
I don’t think my author fully appreciates how wondrous, astounding, and perfect Patience is. I’ve even heard that my author portrayed Patience in such a way so that some readers thought she was annoying. These readers have never met my Patience. She is an angel.
A Question for Me:
How do your heroes fall in love with your heroines? I mean, how could any man fall in love with a woman other than Patience? I would think the men would feel cheated. I know I could never settle for any other woman besides Patience.
Great question. The really wonderful thing about love is that heroes always fall in love with whom they consider to be the perfect woman. Even in real life this happens. And that's a good thing, because that also means there are plenty of good women (and men) to bring each other happiness.
