FRIDAY FLICKS and CONTEST!

Today I thought I'd share my book trailer: Marketing Your Book on a Budget 2014 and allow you the opportunity to win a copy.

Yes, the 2015 version of the book is out, but the 2014 version has many awe-inspiring ideas to market your book with little to no money!

This is what I'm going to do - and this contest is primarily for Utahns because of the way I'm going to handle it.

First, if you're planning on going to the Simple Treasures Boutique next week - the 16-19 - in Farmington, Utah, you just might want to comment on this post (and please include your email). All I need is a comment and you're entered. (I will let the winners know - I will draw names randomly on Tuesday).

Second, come to the Simple Treasures show one of the 4 days mentioned above to get your 2014 Marketing Your Book on a Budget for free!

You're getting a head's up on this contest. I was planning on doing it directly at the show, but if you get your comment in, and you're a winner and you show up at the show for your book, ta da! it's yours.

I have 3 lone books that need a winning writer, so jump right in!

And don't worry, if you don't win, I have another option. Join me at the show for an autographed copy of Marketing Your Book on a Budget 2015! Entrance to the Boutique is only $1, and there are hundreds of great treasures to choose from.

I hope to see you.

Marketing Class Today!

Just so you know, usually when you attend a writer's conference, there are usually one or two classes that have to do with marketing, and so the idea of an entire morning and afternoon available to learn about the various means of marketing communication cannot be over emphasized.

Yes, I will be teaching today on the subjects of putting together your blog/website as well as marketing using book trailers. Other subjects presented by authors will include press releases, marketing plans, radio marketing, fundraisers, book launch parties, and more.

The class will be held today, May 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Jill Vanderwood's home. Her address: 4254 S. Bannock Dr. (5035 W.) West Valley.

Cost is $50 and the price includes lunch.

You can prepay by getting a hold of Jill at: thewriters4literacy@gmail.com, or you can pay at the door.

I would love to see you!

Good news!

We're nearing the publishing of Marketing Your Book on a Budget 2014.

There have been some last minute needed changes, and a bit of tweaking to the cover, but all in all the changes have been a success.

I should have everything edited by this weekend, so expect to see a new book on my site as well as on Amazon within the next couple of weeks!

Here's the book cover:

I would LOVE to know what you think of the new cover!

Marketing Your Book on a Budget 2014

If you haven't yet heard the news, here it is again...

My newly updated book, Marketing Your Book on a Budget, will be available this month! My initial goal was the 15th of this month, and the book may yet come out at that time, but we have had some last minute issues come up.

Suffice it to say, Marketing Your Book on a Budget 2014, needs to be in tip-top shape before it's released. So I'm working hard on making that happen.

Here's the cover:

Chapter headings include:

Reviews
Interviews
Blogs: Yours & Others
Social Media
Speak for Free
Offer Your Book for Free
Get Some Free Advertising
Book Trailers
Do Some Unheard of Book Signings
Carry it with You
Offer a Free eBook or Paperback in a Contest
Use Postcards Instead of Business Cards to Promote Your Work

New ideas included!

I could use some REVIEWS so let me know if you'd like to review this updated book!

New Year's Eve: Writing Prompts

It's been awhile since I've posted a few of my favorite writing prompts. And because it's New Year's Eve tonight, I wanted to share a few with you that I find especially helpful for the new year.

1. Write down your goals for the year, and then, using one of the goals as a writing prompt, write a short story or first book chapter based on the idea as if you've already accomplished it.

2. What have you done in the past year that has been great when it's comes to writing? Have you taken a new writing class, attended a conference, written and published your first book? Make a list and then choose your favorite experience. Write a poem.

3. Having a big party tonight at your place? Going out? Either way, pay special attention to the people you're around, you may just come up with the mustard seed of a new character. I like to keep a small notebook in my purse for just such occasions. I rarely remember what I thought at the moment if I don't write the experience down.

4. Spending time with your kids? Write a book together. When I speak at elementary schools in a class setting, I often speak about characters, setting, plot, etc. to the children and then help them develop their own book (stapled together).

5. Sitting in front of the television or reading a good book? Sometimes, just being by yourself is the best answer to an otherwise raucous night. Have some fun by beginning your new book or short story for the new year. One of my favorite ideas is turning to a random page in any book and starting with that sentence in my new work.

Whatever you do this New Year's Eve, I want to wish you a happy one!

I'm hoping for great things in 2014!

What's Next for Me in the Writing World? UPDATE!

I was asked what was next for me the other day. As if I haven't been busy enough with my new book, The Feast, to be released Monday, September 30. (Update: Book was released by Amazon on September 26! Early, yes, but it's hard to predict these things!)

And yet, I understand the importance of the question.

Get the book at Amazon!
As a writer, you're just not writing, not just publishing, but you're continually thinking about what is coming up for you next. Sort of like that vacation that you've been planning for a few months or a year, you're thinking forward to the glorious day.

As so I'll tell you. I'm going to be having a fun and "pink" book release party on October 19 from 1-4. (If you live near me in Utah, send me a 'I'd like to come message' and I'll add you to my friend list). I can't plan on the weather being good, so it might be outside or inside, depending on the chill. But be assured that my new book will be here, and some luscious pink cupcakes and a strawberry slush (or something equally tempting). And you can be assured that there will be plenty of opportunity to visit.

After that...

I will be working on getting the word out about my new book AND I will be finishing the planning on my book, Marketing Your Book on a Budget, due out January 2014. Be prepared for some new and exciting additions! I am continually learning about what works for me and what doesn't when it comes to getting the word out and you will see new ideas in this book!

After that...yes, there will be a third book in the parable series. But I believe this will be the final one. My working title is The Gift. I have some ideas swirling in my brain but nothing is on paper--yet.

Oh yes, plan on me at the Simple Treasures show in November. And maybe somewhere else! I love selling my books at craft shows!

Last year's show was fantastic! This year's show will be November 6-9

That's it. I think.

What's next for you? I would love to hear.

Kathryn
